Talent agency WME confirmed the death of actor Robbie Coltrane, Friday, at the age of 72.
Ruby starred as Rubeus Hagrid – a fan favorite – in Harry Potter Movies.
Daniel, who played Harry Potter in the series, gave a statement to Variety, stating that “Ruby was one of the funniest people I’ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as the kids on the set.”
“I have especially fond memories of him continuing to keep our spirits high prisoner From Azkaban, When we were all hiding from the pouring rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut, he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up.”
“I feel incredibly lucky to have met and work with him and am deeply saddened by his passing,” the statement continued. “He was a great actor and a great guy.”
Emma, who played Hermione Granger in the series, posted about Ruby’s death on Instagram. “Ruby was such the most pleasant uncle in my life, but most of all, he cared so deeply and tenderly towards me as a child and as an adult. His talent was so immense that it made sense that he played a giant – he could fill any space with his brilliance.”
“Ruby, if I ever treat myself with that kindness on a movie set, I promise I will do it in your name and your memory,” she wrote. “Know how much I adore and admire you. I really miss your sweetness, your nicknames, your warmth, your laughter, your hug. You made us family. I know you were that for us.”
Daniel and Emma weren’t the only ones Harry Potter Colleagues to honor Robbie. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, tweeted a moving tribute:
He was a big friendly giant on screen but was more than that in real life. I love you my friend – thank you for everything xx

Heartbroken by the death of Robbie Coltrane. Hagrid was my favorite character! Ruby brilliantly portrayed Hagrid’s warmth and sense of home the unconditional love of his students and magical creatures. Thanks for all the laughs. I miss you Robbie. Send love to your family
