Caddo Parish has reported 341 additional COVID-19 cases this week

Louisiana reported significantly fewer coronavirus cases in the week to Sunday, adding 3,992 new cases. This is a 28.9% decrease from the previous week’s tally of 5,618 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Louisiana is ranked 40th among the states with the fastest spread of the coronavirus on a per capita basis, according to a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. In the last week, coronavirus cases in the United States were down 0.6% from the previous week, with 401,433 cases reported. With 1.4% of the country’s population, Louisiana had 0.99% of the country’s cases in the past week. Across the country, 17 states had more cases in the last week than in the previous week.

Johns Hopkins University obtained data on an irregular schedule from Louisiana, drawing week-to-week comparisons.

Caddo Parish has reported 341 cases and two deaths in the last week. A week ago, it reported 421 cases of infection and three deaths. During the pandemic, 81,506 cases and 1,201 deaths were reported.

Bossier Parish has reported 189 cases and zero deaths in the last week. A week ago, it reported 278 cases and one death. During the pandemic, 46,801 cases and 516 deaths were reported.

Webster Parish has reported 64 cases and zero deaths in the last week. A week ago, it reported 82 cases and zero deaths. During the pandemic, 13,599 cases and 193 deaths were reported.

De Soto Parish has reported 23 cases and zero deaths in the last week. A week ago, it reported 33 cases and one death. During the pandemic, 9,012 cases and 141 deaths were reported.

Claiborne Parish has reported 14 cases and zero deaths in the last week. A week ago, it reported 21 cases and zero deaths. During the pandemic, 3,831 cases and 79 deaths were reported.

Red River Parish has reported three cases and zero deaths in the last week. A week earlier, she had reported two cases and one death. During the pandemic, 2,414 cases and 56 deaths were reported.

Across Louisiana, cases are down in 53 parishes, with the best decline in Orleans County, with 211 cases from 415 in the previous week; in Jefferson Parish, with 226 cases out of 350; And in Ouachita, with 199 cases out of 299. ​

Within Louisiana, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per capita basis were in Richland Parish with 263 cases per 100,000 per week; Diocese of Bienville with 257; and Tensas Parish with 254. The CDC says high levels of transmission in the community start at 100 cases per 100,000 per week.

Adding the most new cases overall was Caddo Parish, with 341 cases; The parish of St. Tammany has 307 cases. and East Baton Rouge Parish, with 249. Weekly case numbers are up in 10 parishes from the previous week. The worst increases from the pace of the previous week were in the parishes of La Forge, Richland and Pointe Coupe.

In Louisiana, 32 ​ One person died from COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 54 people were killed.

Johns Hopkins University data showed that a total of 1,452,495 people in Louisiana have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 18,009 people have died of the disease. In the United States, 96,070,980 people have tested positive and 1,056,416 people have died.

COVID-19 hospital admissions drop in Louisiana

USA TODAY analyzed federal hospital data as of Sunday, September 25. COVID patients are likely to be admitted into the state:

  • Last week: 504
  • The week before that: 534
  • Four weeks ago: 798

Covid patients likely to enter the country:

  • Last week: 55707
  • The week before that: 55506
  • Four weeks ago: 64,244

Hospitals in 13 states reported more COVID-19 patients than the previous week, while hospitals in 20 states had more COVID-19 patients in intensive care beds. Hospitals in 25 states received more COVID-19 patients in the last week than the previous week, a USA TODAY analysis of US Health and Human Services data shows.
