Another text shows Favre is offering to make paid bids for fundraising, so he can talk about the Volleyball Building, to supplement the $4 million initially approved by MDHS.
The government’s 2020 auditor’s report showed the nonprofit Nancy paid $2.5 million to Favre Enterprises in November 2017, followed by another $2.5 million the following month. The above speech funds were sent in December 2017 and June 2018, in batches of $500,000 and $600,000.

In August, Bryant’s lawyer challenged a subpoena regarding any records relating to the volleyball project, arguing that his transcripts are protected by executive privilege, but the text message records were submitted to court last month, according to The New York Times.
“I asked Brett not to do the things he does to get funding from state agencies and the legislature for the volleyball facility,” said then-Southern Miss School President Dr. Rodney Bennett He wrote to Bryant in January 2020, according to court filings. “I’ll see ‘for the umpteenth time’ if we can get him to concede… The bottom line is that he included the project in person, and on his word and handshake, we followed through. It’s time for him to pay – it really is that simple.”
Bryant replied, in the filing, “This was [sic] My thoughts. Perhaps he wants the state to keep his promises. Like all of us I love Britt. It’s a legend but he has to understand the meaning of the pledge. I tried many times to explain it to him.”
