Trump devised a plan to replace the government documents he stole with documents about the Russia investigation.
The New York Times reported:
Mr Trump floated the idea of offering the deal to return the boxes in exchange for documents he believed would reveal the Russia investigation as a “hoax” devised by the FBI, and Mr Trump does not appear to know precisely what he believes contain the archives. – Just that there are things he wants.
Mr. Trump’s aides – realizing that such a trade-off would not be a start because the government had a clear right to the material Mr. Trump took from the White House and Russia-related documents kept in the archives have been classified as classified – did not act on the idea.
Trump is convinced that there are classified documents somewhere that will show that the FBI shaped the Russia investigation into his 2016 campaign. The links between the Trump campaign and Russia have already been established.
Almost seven years have passed, and Donald Trump is still trying to stamp out the Russia scandal.
The idea that the government would never share the documents because Trump was breaking the law didn’t get into the former president’s head.
Trump still operates on influence in the 1980s and has convinced himself that the world is a novice and that everything is a bargain.
As the government has made clear through its Mar-a-Lago research, Trump has no leverage.
