Trump and his Republican allies were counting on the Durham investigation to discredit the Russia investigation. Instead, John Durham attacks his witnesses.
CNN reported:
The expected final trial of the investigation by special counsel John Durham took an unexpected turn on Wednesday, with Durham being questioned and his witness reprimanded after the witness appeared to support Igor Danchenko’s defense, a key source in Steele’s file.
The dynamic was surprising as she was Durham’s first witness. And at times, while Durham personally questioned the witness, he veered from the narrow case against Danchenko and focused more on the FBI’s mistakes in 2016 while investigating then-candidate Donald Trump.
Durham’s having to attack his first witness was the ultimate in an investigation that had been a staggering failure for many years. Durham was supposed to prove that the FBI spied on Trump and that the Russia investigation was fake. Trump pinned his hopes on Durham getting rid of his troubles with Russia.
Instead, the only other case brought by Durham led to a swift acquittal, and now he sees the man chosen to investigate the detectives as his witness weakening his case.
The investigation was a fiasco because it was based on a hoax.
Durham does not solve Trump’s problem with Russia. It only confirms what was already known. The FBI wasn’t out to get Trump. They were investigating his associates because they were working with Russia to help the former president.
