The latest investment includes a partnership with Thompson Medical Group and Disney Investment Vehicle, Shamrock Holdings, Inc.
New York, October 18, 2022(BUSINESS WIRE)– Recharge Capital, a leading private equity firm in subject areas, has announced an investment of approximately $3 million in the Generation Prime incubator. The digital healthcare platform will be the first provider of integrated IVF, closed-loop and health related services with IVF clinic clusters serving Southeast Asia, a region of more than 600 million residents. The nursery group includes Recharge Capital, Thompson Medical Group, and Shamrock Holdings, Inc. It is an investment vehicle for the Disney family. The nursery represents Shamrock Holdings’ first investment in Southeast Asia.
“Fertility is one of the most pressing issues facing our society, yet this sector remains largely neglected,” said Lauren Jo, founder of Recharge Capital. “A common misconception is that IVF services are used exclusively by a small segment of the naturally infertile population. In fact, people use IVF for a variety of family planning and healthcare needs, and we are proud to support Generation Prime in expanding its cutting-edge technology to serve patients at an affordable cost.
The rapid decline in fertility rates worldwide is a sign of impending population decline. According to the United Nations, global birth rates have halved over the past 70 years, and studies show that by 2045, nearly 50% of couples are expected to rely on IVF in order to conceive. Despite these indications, total female health conditions accounted for only 1% of pharmaceutical research funding in 2020.
For Recharge and its incubator partners, Generation Prime represents an opportunity to address the fertility issues prevalent in Southeast Asia through technological innovation. “Generation Prime is developing IVF treatments as a critical component of digital healthcare services in the region,” said Heidi Ang, Director of Business Development at Generation Prime. The services will not only cater to women and couples residing in the region, but also the huge demand for international medical tourism emanating from China and all over the world.
With its first investment in the region, Shamrock Holdings intends to increase access to this vital reproductive technology. Greg Martin, President of Shamrock Holdings, Inc.
