Henry County is reporting 16 additional COVID-19 cases this week this week

Illinois reported significantly fewer coronavirus cases in the week to Sunday, adding 10,945 new cases. This is a 37% decrease from the previous week’s tally of 17,373 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Illinois ranked 27th among the states with the fastest spread of the coronavirus on a per capita basis, according to a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. In the last week, coronavirus cases in the United States were down 19.4% from the previous week, with 323,859 cases reported. With 3.81% of the country’s population, Illinois has had 3.38% of cases in the country in the past week. Across the country, 10 states had more cases in the last week than in the previous week.

Henry County has reported 16 cases and no deaths in the last week. A week ago, I reported 37 cases and no deaths. During the pandemic, 14,784 cases and 123 deaths were reported.

Across Illinois, cases are down in 80 counties, with the best decline in Cook County, with 4,319 cases from 7,654 the previous week; in Lake County, with 669 cases out of 1,833; and in DuPage County, with 814 cases out of 1,050.

Within Illinois, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per capita basis were in Hardin County with 209 cases per 100,000 per week. Pope County with 192; and Crawford County with 187. The CDC says high levels of transmission in the community start at 100 cases per 100,000 per week.

Adding the most new cases overall was Cook County, with 4,319 cases; DuPage County, with 814 cases; and Lake County, with 669. The number of weekly cases in 17 counties is up from the previous week. The worst increases from last week’s pace were in Stark, Massach and Greene counties.

In Illinois, 74 people were reported to have died from COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 88 people had been killed.

Johns Hopkins University data showed that a total of 3,762,220 people in Illinois have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 39,698 people have died from the disease. In the United States, 963,985 people have tested positive and 1,059,605 people have died.

Illinois COVID-19 hospital admissions remain steady

USA TODAY analyzed federal hospital data as of Sunday, October 2. COVID patients are likely to be admitted into the state:

  • Last week: 2663
  • The week before that: 2,717
  • Four weeks ago: 3058

Covid patients likely to enter the country:

  • Last week: 51355
  • The week before that: 53,692
  • Four weeks ago: 61434

Hospitals in 17 states reported more COVID-19 patients than the previous week, while hospitals in 25 states had more COVID-19 patients in intensive care beds. Hospitals in 17 states received more COVID-19 patients in the last week than the previous week, a USA TODAY analysis of US Health and Human Services data shows.
