Campbell Heritage Theater hosts eclectic concert season – Mercury News

The 2022-23 season of heritage theater opens and concludes with an ’80s vibe, with Celtic Christmas, Southern rock, an outlaw country homage and some a cappella singing in between.

Big Head Todd and The Monsters started things off on November 6. The Colorado quartet debuted, “The Last Mayberry,” in 1989 and went platinum with “Sister Sweetly” in 1993. “Beautiful World,” released in 1997, resulted in the cover of “Boom Boom” featuring John Lee Hooker. , which served as the subject of “NCIS: New Orleans”.

The band consists of Todd Park Mohr on vocals, guitar, keys, sax and harmonica. Brian Nevin on drums and percussion; Rob Squires on bass and vocals. and Jeremy Lawton on guitar, keys, vocals and steel ukulele.

Christmas with the Celts arrives at the Heritage Theater on December 9 for a family-friendly show featuring old Irish Christmas carols and vibrant Irish dance to contemporary songs with Irish instruments, including Mariah Carey’s “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” by Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas.” Christmas, “White Christmas” and “Merry Christmas” by John Lennon.

New Year’s Heritage begins with the Marshall Tucker Musical Band on January 28. The band formed in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in 1972, calling themselves a blind pianist who found their name engraved on the key to their original rehearsal space. The band’s music catalog consists of more than 20 studio albums and a range of live releases, and includes songs such as “Heard It in a Love Song” and “Can’t You See”.

Co-founded by Toy Caldwell and Doug Gray, who fronted the band from the start, current members of the band Marshall Tucker include drummer B.B. Borden, guitarist/vocalist Ryan Ware and keyboardist/saxophonist/flutist/vocalist Marcus James Henderson, bassist Guitarist/vocalist Chris Hicks and guitarist/vocalist Rick Willis.

The Highwaymen Show takes to the stage February 25 to honor country stars Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Willon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson. Founded by Gray Sartain, who pays tribute to Johnny Cash, Show Highwaymen is made up of musicians with whom Sartain has worked for decades: North Carolina native Greg Bowman as Kris Kristofferson, Georgia-born Tyson Halford as Willie Nelson and Tennessee native Stephane Suberti. A cappella group Voctave brought their vocals to the stage on March 24. The group’s latest album, “The Spirit of the Season, Deluxe Edition,” reached number six on the Billboard charts. Formed in 2015 by producer and arranger Jamie Ray, the 11 members of Voctave hail from Central Florida.

The season ends on April 27 with Ladies Night with Taylor Dane and Sheena Easton. Between them, the pop singers have earned nine Grammy Award nominations, two Grammy Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, an American Music Award, six platinum albums, five gold albums, 39 Billboard Top 20 singles, and 11 singles.

With a career spanning three decades, Taylor’s debut single “Tell It To My Heart” turned her into an international overnight star in 1987. Her stellar success was followed by 17 Top 20 singles.

Easton has won two Grammy Awards and is the first – and still the only – artist to have top five records on five major Billboard charts. Her songs range from “Morning Train: 9 to 5” to the James Bond movie theme “For Your Eyes Only”.
