Bay Area News Group Athlete of the Week: Salvador Espinosa, Lincoln

Lincoln-San Jose soccer player Salvador Espinosa and water polo player Willow Glenn Nolan Lynch garnered more than 29,000 votes in this week’s poll for the Bay Area News Group for High School Boys’ High School Boys.

When the deadline hit Wednesday, Espinosa was ahead with 182 votes. He is the athlete of the week for October 3-8 after finishing 29,482 votes (43.05%).

Lynch came in second with 29,300 votes (42.79%), and soccer player Jordan Fuentes came in third.

Congratulations to all the nominees on this week’s grade.

Espinosa, who is 5-foot-7, 145 pounds, ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns in 31 coaches while Lincoln prevailed on the road over Christopher 27-17 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League opener for Mount Hamilton.

Both teams entered the match unbeaten.

Espinosa rushed for 695 yards and 10 TD points this season. Lincoln 6-0, 1-0.
