The Message: Think Responsibly Renewable Energy – Grand Forks Herald

Fire, ready, aim. This is the process promoted by environmentalists and left-wing politicians when it comes to energy

In California, the legislature passed a law banning the sale of new combustion engines in 2035. The next day, the state required its residents to limit their use of electricity and not plug in their cars. seriously? According to the California Energy Commission, at the end of 2021, there were 2,9109620 vehicles registered in California, of which 837,887 were electric vehicles. Less than 3% of California cars run on electricity! Does anyone see a problem?

By relying on renewables and limiting power generation from nuclear, coal and gas, California has put itself in a bind.

What is even more unethical with the requirements for 2035 is the fact that our nation depends on China for more than 70% of the materials needed for batteries and solar panels. In order to facilitate this, China is building a record number of coal plants to support their manufacturing needs. Plus, look at what happened in Europe after years of coal and gas mining and nuclear power generation. Russia is holding Europe hostage to its gas pipeline. Prices are going up. However, our government depends on China for materials needed for batteries, solar panels, and OPEC+ (which includes Russia) for oil, while the left is desperately trying to destroy the domestic oil/gas industry.

Earlier this year, President Biden asked OPEC+ and Venezuela to increase their oil production but did not come close to US producers. What a slap in the face for over 250,000 energy workers in the United States. No one in the world produces cleaner ore than the United States.

Climate change is real and we need to include renewables as part of the mix. Let’s do it responsibly and not at the expense of reliable local energy and reliable transportation.
