During ‘Climate Week’, Hochul pushes renewable energy projects, Environmental Bond Act

Gov. Cathy Hochhol reaffirms the state’s commitment to tackling climate change as well as another appeal to voters to support the Environmental Bond Act in the fall ballot.

During a news conference in New York City on Wednesday, as part of Climate Week activities, Hochhol spoke about the urgency needed to tackle climate change, including building more resilience to help New York deal with major climate events.

“It’s Sandy’s 10th anniversary, and our clean-up work is still going on,” Hochul said. “They are building resilience. But I would say this, we are really the first generation to feel the impact of climate change. And we are the last generation to be able to do anything about it.”

Hochhol said the development of the projects being planned is expected to spur nearly $3 billion in clean energy investment and create more than 2,000 jobs.

During a press conference at the Javits Center in Manhattan, Hochul also spoke in favor of the $4.2 billion environmental bond law, which was introduced in the November ballot.

“I need everyone who cares about human life on this planet who lives in New York State, to be mobilized to make sure the vote comes out in support of this bond law. I want everyone in this room to make a sustained effort, not to look back and say we missed out. Because we We didn’t get enough people to take care in time for this important polling initiative’

This bond act would, among other things, fund projects to combat climate change including efforts to make communities more resilient to major weather events, such as floods.
