An 84-year-old woman was shot while campaigning against Michigan

An 84-year-old woman was shot while campaigning against a Michigan suffrage measure that would legalize abortion until delivery.

The shooting took place on September 20 in Lake Odessa as the woman was going from house to door to distribute leaflets.

According to a Right to Live Michigan press release, “the 84-year-old victim said she was shot in the back/shoulder while leaving a condo during a heated conversation and that the man who shot her was not part of the conversation.”

The victim does not know the identity of the shooter or his motive. The victim is still recovering from her gunshot wound and wishes to remain anonymous while the criminal investigation continues.”

Local news station WOOD-TV reported that “the woman drove herself to the Odessa Lake Police Department to report this and was taken to hospital, where she was treated and released.”

RTL Michigan said the case is under investigation by the Michigan State Police, which will forward the findings of the investigation to the Ionia County District Attorney’s Office.

Abortion will be on the ballot in Michigan in November. The Reproductive Freedom for All suffrage petition would amend the state’s constitution to make abortion a “right” in the state without restrictions.

Abortion advocates spend millions to make sure the procedure goes through.

The case also generates millions of dollars. The latest government fundraising data, from July, shows that Reproductive Freedom for All has raised nearly $10 million since the campaign began in early 2022, ABC 7 reports.
