Amazon and Berkshire Hathaway may be among the top payers of the new minimum tax

Washington — a handful of large companies, such as Berkshire Hathaway And the Amazon.com Most of the burden can be borne by the 15% minimum corporate tax President Biden signed into law last month.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina Tax Center analyzed stock filings to determine what companies would have paid if the tax had been applied last year. They found that fewer than 80 publicly traded US companies would have paid any minimum corporate tax in 2021, and only six – including Amazon and Warren BuffettIts conglomerate would have paid half of the estimated $32 billion in revenue the tax would have generated.
