US Army identifies 18-year-old active soldier who was found dead in their barracks

The name of the US Army soldier who died last week at Fort Jackson has been announced.

Fort Jackson officials said that on October 7, Private Daniel A. Shields, 18, of Decatur, Georgia, is unresponsive in her barracks. She was taken to a nearby hospital where CPR was attempted, but was pronounced dead at 11 p.m.

The official cause of death is still being investigated, however, preliminary investigations have eliminated COVID-19 and any active field training as possible causes, News19 reported.

This is the second fatality in Fort Jackson in recent months. The Gateway Pundit previously reported that a member of the National Guard who was only 17 years old died after she collapsed while participating in a military exercise at Fort Jackson in South Carolina in August.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Private Alyssa Kahun,” the battalion’s Facebook page said. She passed away last night, August 25, 2022, with her family at her bedside.

According to the military, Alyssa was sent to an off-site hospital for treatment by the emergency medical services at Fort Jackson, where she died five days later.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family members and colleagues of the deceased soldier,” U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson Commandant, Brigadier General. General Patrick Michaelis said in a statement.
