The Senate’s hopes for Herschel Walker were already fading, but his ex-girlfriend has now come forward with evidence that he tried to get her to have a second abortion, and explosive texts make clear how bad a father-walker is.
The New York Times reported:
A woman who said Herschel Walker, the Republican candidate in the Georgia Senate, paid for her abortion in 2009 told The New York Times that he urged her to end her second pregnancy two years later. They ended their relationship after she refused.
In a series of interviews, the woman said Mr. Walker barely participated in their 10-year-old son’s life, offering little to no court-ordered child support and occasional gifts.
The woman says Walker only saw his son three times. She described Walker as a do-nothing father, and that wasn’t the worst.
The Daily Beast reported on Walker texts to his ten-year-old son that included lying to the child about the number of his siblings:
The boy asked his father if he had any brothers or sisters he did not know, in addition to the adult son Christian Walker and Walker’s daughter whom he had previously revealed to the boy.
Walker, whose half-brother confirmed to The Daily Beast three weeks ago, lied to his son. “You have the brother and sister I told you about. He wrote ‘I love you’.”
Georgia Republicans knew Herschel Walker was a train wreck but they couldn’t stop him from winning the nomination.
The Republican Party knows its base will stick to Herschel Walker and ignore red flags, but the problem is that the Republican candidate is likely to bleed independent and undecided voters.
In an election that was supposed to be close, Walker’s chances of getting so much cross-Democrat support evaporated, and it’s hard to see many people outside the Republican Party voting for him.
Herschel Walker’s campaign was one of the most stunning and protracted self-destruction in recent US electoral politics. It likely cost the Republicans any chance of winning a Senate majority.
