Millcreek – Millcreek will soon generate its clean, renewable power thanks to award funding from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program participants. The money will support the installation of solar panels at the new Millcreek Town Hall.
The $460,000 award will cover 77 percent of the cost of installing a 120-kilowatt solar panel system with a 30-kilowatt battery.
Millcreek joins more than 200 organizations across the Rocky Mountain Power service area that, since 2006, have received awards for their community renewable projects, including solar, wind, geothermal and other forms of renewable energy. This project is one of six projects selected this year through a competitive evaluation process.
“We are delighted that we were chosen for this award, and we are very grateful to the Rocky Mountain Power Blue Sky participants who made this possible,” says Mayor Jeff Silvestrini. “This solar panel project is not only a win-win for the environment but for the local community as well. By generating our own electricity, we will save on energy costs – and that means we can allocate more of our budget to the needs of our residents.”
Blue Sky is an optional program that gives Rocky Mountain Power customers the option to match all or part of their energy use with renewable energy – reducing carbon emissions and driving demand for new renewable energy in the West. Through the Blue Sky Block option,
Participants also support eligible renewable energy projects for organizations that serve the community such as schools, community centers, and technical organizations.
“For more than 20 years, the Blue Sky program has provided Rocky Mountain Power customers with a simple and effective way to live by their values, reduce carbon emissions and support renewable energy,” said Travis Jones, Rocky Mountain Power’s regional business manager. “Unlike most green energy programs, Blue Sky goes beyond purchasing renewable energy credits to help fund additional smaller energy projects for organizations in our communities. Through projects like this, Blue Sky participants work to build a better future for local communities.”
Construction of Millcreek’s new town hall began in March 2022. Power generation is expected to begin in the fall of 2023. For more information, visit www.millcreek.us or RockyMountainPower.net/BlueSky.
