Panerai Luminor Quaranta Razer PAM01353

When Officine Panerai announced last year that it would be working with gaming giant Razer, we couldn’t imagine this 40mm Panerai Luminor Quaranta Razer PAM01353. In hindsight, Conservation and Sustainability links Panerai and Razer, as both companies are deeply committed to nature conservation, for example. Both brands work with Conservation International to support research into marine species; Perhaps the most notable part of the work you may know here has to do with protecting manta rays.

We think the Luminor Quaranta Razer PAM01353 is among the most exciting under-the-radar watches signed twice to date. Of course, only time will tell where the Panerai-Razer partnership will go, and that will shape how collectors perceive this watch. Since it is limited to 500 pieces, the exclusivity factor of PAM01353 definitely plays out; It is only available in Panerai stores and on the Panerai website. What attracts us is that the hype is absent, with no serious viewing content platforms picking up on this story, even at this relatively late date. Perhaps, like us, these platforms were expecting something more brutal, like a smartwatch or even a diving computer.

However, the Luminor Quaranta Razer is an eye-catching time-only watch with a history that pushes the boundaries in terms of what watchmaking can do with recycled materials. So yes, the issue here is at eSteel, which is the recycled steel Panerai introduced two years ago (you can hear what Panerai executives have to say about the company’s sustainability initiatives here). The watch case has been treated with DLC, making it nicely dark while adding a touch of gadget-like charm. The green on the SuperLuminova is the darker Razer version, which is a nice touch. The same tone appears on the stitching of the recycled PET strap, but the Razer THS logo on the traditional sandwich-style dial is nearly invisible.

Collectors should note that the Razer logo also appears on the closed back cover, while the Razer name appears in Razer’s signature font on the crown guard bridge. The PAM01353 is powered by a P.900 automatic caliber with three days of power reserve from a single barrel, which Panerai believers will appreciate. Interestingly, the watch is water-resistant to 100m and therefore may be relatively thin (height specification not available). There are two types of straps, the alternative here is rubber. The buckle also has a quick release system, which is remarkable.
