Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warned potential thieves to beware because Florida is a second modified state.
Looting was a major concern for those in the areas severely damaged by Hurricane Ian.
“We are a country of law and order, and this is a community of law and order,” DeSantis said while speaking at a news conference in Fort Myers on Friday. “So don’t think you’re going to take advantage of people who have experienced misery.”

During a subsequent press conference later in the day, DeSantis repeated, “Don’t even think about looting.”
The governor warned those who seek to “loot people’s homes” that the state is heavily armed.
“I can tell you in Florida, you never know what might lie behind someone’s home,” DeSantis said. “And I wouldn’t want to expect that if I were you—since we’re on a second edit.”

Fox News reports that Lee County Mayor Carmine Marcino also said he “will not tolerate” anyone trying to benefit people who are suffering.
“We will not, I mean, have zero tolerance when we say that anyone who thinks they will thrive on the people of this county or state when we have been dealt such a terrible blow — I can guarantee you that they will not,” said Marcino.
Marcino added that there would be a “quick jail immediately with zero tolerance”.
An estimated 2 million people were still without power in the state as of Friday afternoon.
