Michigan’s largest health care system has been officially named.
Beaumont Health, based in metro Detroit, and Spectrum Health, based in Grand Rapids, are merged to form a major nonprofit healthcare organization. The system, which has operated under the temporary name of BHSH System since its launch in January, has officially decided on a permanent name: Corewell Health.
Separate health care systems announced in July 2021 their intention to merge in an effort to provide more “accessible, affordable and equitable health care and coverage” to all Michigan residents. The combined health care system is now the largest in Michigan.
Tina Fries Decker, president and CEO of Corewell Health, said Corewell was inspired by “thousands of ideas” from employees who “put health and wellness at the heart of everything we do.” Officials say the system’s new logo, a blue and green orb, represents the existing colors used by the merged organizations.
“We are aware of the amazing results and history from Beaumont Health and Spectrum Health,” Decker said. “Now together, known as Corewell Health, we move forward as one, focused on the health and wellness of all.”
Officials say trademarks and banners bearing the new name will be rolled out in phases over the next two years.

Officials earlier said the organization would operate from a dual headquarters in Grand Rapids and Southfield, overseeing 22 hospitals, 305 outpatient sites and tens of thousands of employees. In announcing the merger, the systems said their goals from the new health system were: improved health and health equity; enhancing the consumer experience; Improving the quality, value, and outcomes of health care; make health care affordable; And listen to the input of doctors and other staff.
