Americans don’t care about climate change | September 24
No interest in climate change
Columnist Nicholas Goldberg offered a warning of indifference and indifference regarding the world’s greatest crisis. Judging by global warming ranking 24th on a list of 29 voter issues, dire warnings fall on deaf ears.
Trying to market an issue in America today to provoke popular anger would be a fool’s errand. Who is to blame for the lack of interest is not a scientific puzzle. The same old culprits of questionable news sources, the social media bubble, and extremist politicians who constantly promote a false narrative about climate change have been done to promote an agenda in which a lack of belief in science is defined as freedom and patriotism. This is an agenda where we all lose.

Pinellas leaders launch free mental health program for first responders | September 23
First responders help
Pinellas County deserves credit for launching the Champions Mental Health Foundation, which helps provide mental health services to first responders and their families. For too long, the behavioral health needs of first responders were ignored. First responders are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. They are the first to respond, but they are the last to ask for help.
As a retired law enforcement officer, I have seen how repeated exposure to trauma can affect someone. Police, firefighters, emergency medical services, and dispatch personnel are constantly under severe strain. That’s why I’m now working to connect our community’s first responders with the help they need through First Responder Hope Line (1-866-4FL-HERO/LastToAsk.com). This 24-hour support line, funded by the Florida Department of Children and Families, covers 11 counties, including the Pinellas, and provides immediate, confidential, emotional support and communications for a variety of resources. We all need to do more to help our community heroes.

Another life lost
You can add another lost soul to President Joe Biden’s open border policy. A man in the country was illegally accused of running over and murdering Pinellas County Representative Michael Hartwick, whose family has lost a son, husband and father. If convicted, Florida taxpayers would have to pay for his imprisonment, which could be up to 30 years. He should be deported and never allowed to enter this country again. Major media outlets, including the Tampa Bay Times, have ignored the Democrats’ border crisis for the past 21 months. There are hundreds of thousands of immigrants waiting to be processed and to comply with the law. But you can bet that this message will not be published because it does not fit into the awakening agenda of the left wing.
