Queen Elizabeth’s death certificate lists old age as a cause

Queen Elizabeth II’s death certificate was officially published on Thursday, revealing that the 96-year-old queen’s cause of death was simply listed as “old age”.

The National Records for Scotland published the extract in the death register which officially indicated the Queen’s death at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire on 8 September.

The official time of death was recorded at 3:10 pm, about two hours before her children, Princes Andrew and Edward, and grandson, Prince William, and about 3.5 hours before her death was made public.

Her two other children, King Charles III and Princess Anne, were already with the ailing king when she died, with Anne listed as a signatory on the death certificate.

The Queen’s usual residence is listed as Windsor Castle, while her occupation is listed simply as “Her Majesty the Queen”.

The document also contains the names and royal titles of her late husband Prince Philip, as well as her father and mother, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

The practicing physician who signed the death certificate was Douglas Glass, who had worked in the role of pharmacist at Balmoral since at least 2009.

According to NHS Education for Scotland, a certified doctor should not mention ‘old age’ as the only cause of death on a medical certificate unless they have treated the deceased over an extended period, and have noticed a gradual decline in the patient’s health, are not aware of any specific illness or injury that contributed to the death, If the patient is 80 years old or older.
